The details of the race are still trickling back to the team manager, but below is what I know so far. Hopefully one of the racers can amend this race report to give more details.
The Snelling Road Race is one of the classic races on the NorCal calendar. It features 90 flatish miles of road racing through the beautiful almond orchards of central California. Strong winds, and the echelons they cause, are often decisive in this race. The h24cycling boys rolled to the start line with a squad of 5.
When the racing really began to heat up, Tom Soladay and Jesse Anthony (Rally), Chris Reikert (Mike’s Bikes), and Illuminate rider, and our very own Chris HD made it up the road. Justin Mauch bridged up shortly thereafter with Aria Kiana (Mike’s Bikes) and Emerson Oronte (Rally). These are the 8 riders that would be battling it out for the win.
Fairly quickly, Aria and Illuminate were jettisoned from the break, leaving 6 riders. With some unfortunate luck, Chris HD flatted out of the move after hitting a nasty pothole. This left 5 riders in the break, with 3 of them from Rally. The riders continued to rotate through and work together.
With a lap and a half left, Jesse and Tom (Rally) attacked and left Mauch and Reikert to chase with Oronte sitting on. Oronte attacked and took Justin along with him. At the finish, Rally swept the first 3 spots with Soladay, Anthony, and Oronte. Our own Mauch finished 4th with Reikert in 5th.
